The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) accredits our food handler certificate program under ASTM E2659, the standard for certificate programs. The accreditation is valid through September 16, 2030.

What the accreditation covers
ANAB's accreditation covers our food handler certificate program: the online course, the final test and the certificate you receive when you pass. The course page for each accredited state says so.
Not every Fenix course is covered. Our Utah food handler course and our Texas alcohol seller-server course have their own approvals, described below.
What ANAB accreditation means
ANAB is a wholly owned subsidiary of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). It accredits certificate programs against ANSI/ASTM E2659, Standard Practice for Certificate Programs.
The standard covers how a program designs its course, builds its test, sets the passing score, and issues and tracks certificates. Some states require an accredited course. California's food handler law, for example, requires a card from an "American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited training provider" that meets ASTM E2659 (Health and Safety Code §113948).
Our certificate program policies are public. They list the course's learning outcomes, the passing score (70%), how certificates are issued, verified and invalidated, and how to file a complaint or appeal a test result.

The certificate's unique identifier is 0962. ANAB's directory lists our accreditation ID as 9262, and that's the number we show on this site.
Other approvals
- Utah: our Utah food handler course is approved by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, and we're on its list of approved food handler training providers. It's a state approval, not part of our ANAB accreditation.
- Texas alcohol seller-server (TABC): our TABC course is approved by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission as school number 692-794. We're on TABC's list of certification schools as Fenix Learning.
Accreditation questions
What does ANAB stand for?
ANSI National Accreditation Board. It's a wholly owned subsidiary of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and it accredits certificate programs such as food handler courses.
Is ANAB accreditation the same as ANSI accreditation?
ANAB is the accreditation board of ANSI, which owns it. Laws and older materials often say "ANSI-accredited." California's food handler law, for example, requires a card from an "American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited training provider." ANAB's directory lists the accredited providers for California, and we're on that list.
How can I check whether a food handler course is accredited?
Look up the provider in ANAB's online directory of accredited certificate issuers. It lists providers by state program and shows the dates each accreditation is valid. Our listings are linked above.
Does the accreditation cover every Fenix course?
No. It covers our food handler certificate program, and the course page for each accredited state says so. Our Utah food handler course is approved by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services instead, and our Texas seller-server course is approved by TABC. Food handler courses we sell for states that don't require accreditation aren't covered.
How long is the accreditation valid?
ANAB granted it on September 16, 2025, and it's valid through September 16, 2030. Each listing in ANAB's directory shows the current dates.
Is a food handler card a certification?
No. ASTM E2659 is a standard for certificate programs: a course, a test on what it taught, and a certificate for passing. A food handler card shows you completed that training. It isn't a professional certification, and it doesn't replace food manager certification.
