30-Day Hiring Window

How Long Is a Utah Food Handler Card Valid?
Your Food Handler Card is valid for three years from the date you complete the course. After that, you will need to renew by retaking the training. Here is what you need to know about maintaining your certification.

How long does the Utah food handler course take?

When do I need to get my Utah food handler card?
Utah law requires food handlers to obtain their Food Handler Card within 30 days of their hire date. However, many employers prefer you to have it before your first day on the job. Since the course only takes about 75 minutes and costs $8, it is easy to get it done before you start working.
What if I fail the food handler exam?
You get an exam retake at no additional cost. The exam is 40 multiple-choice questions, and you need a score of 70% or higher to pass. If you do not pass on your first try, you can review the material and retake the exam immediately.
How long is a Utah food handler card valid?
Your Utah Food Handler Card is valid for 3 years from the date you complete the course, however immediately after the course you will get a temporary certificate while you await your official card in the mail.
How much does the Utah food handler card cost?
The FenixFoodSafety Utah Food Handler Card costs $8 and the State of Utah requires an additional $15 fee for the issuing health department. This fee is required no matter which training provider you use (though some may deceitfully claim the fee is higher so they can pocket the difference). Our $8 fee is a one-time payment that covers the training course, the exam, your digital certificate and full access to your course and certificate for the full 3-year period.
Is the Fenix food handler course ANAB accredited?
While FenixFoodSafety is an accredited Certificate Issuer by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) (#0962), this program is governed by requirements of the Utah Department of Health and Human Services and has slight differences from our ANAB accredited food handler course.

Accreditation & Approval Information

This course fulfills the mandatory food handler training requirement for food employees in Utah as outlined in Utah Administrative Code R392-100. Upon successful completion, you will receive a 30 day temporary certificate immediately and then, in the mail, an official Food Handler Card that is valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance.
Certificate Validity: Your certificate is valid throughout Utah. Some employers may have additional training requirements beyond the state-mandated Food Handler Card. Please check with your employer for any additional requirements. Your certificate must be kept on file at your place of employment and must be renewed every 3 years.
